How to Make a Korean Romance Drama

(Note: This does not apply to horror/historical dramas.)

Use as many of these as you want. Or all, if you feel like it.

* Someone dies.
* Someone gets cancer.
* Someone gets amnesia.
* There's a love triangle. The party who loses in the triangle ends up dead or pathetic.
* There's a couple. One party is cheating on the other.
* Someone's mom dies. (I am not joking on this one)
* Someone's trying to get pregnant and can't.
* Someone shouldn't be pregnant, but is.
* Two people want to get married, but the guy's mom won't let it happen. (Or both moms...)
* Two babies got switched at birth.
* Someone gets in trouble with the Korean gangs (which can be worse than yakuza).
* Someone's about to die (but doesn't die), remaining hospitalized for a long...long...time.
* The grandparent-elderly people exploit their position to get what they want.
* At least one arranged marriage.
* Someone's ex shows up.
* Someone's ex shows up after she gets pregnant.

...yeah...

But for some reason they have this addictive quality that makes me want to watch no matter how lame it is.

*Someone accidentally gets sent a robot (cute girl, or protective man).

I do not kid. I have seen this in Korean AND Japanese dramas.

And books.
A LOT of books.

Funnily enough I don't actually see this much in Korean dramas (probably more Japanese)...

Boy1 likes Girl.
Boy1 confeses to Girl.
Girl rejects Boy1.
Girl likes Boy 2.
Boy2 likes Girl back.
Girl and Boy2 become a couple.
Something bad happens to Boy1.
Girl feels guilty.
Girl ends up leaving Boy2 because/for Boy1.
/epicdramasong and then credits.

...And this is why I like historical dramas over modern dramas. EVEd
(Except Beethoven Virus. That one has enough plot to make up for the genericness++)

Seondeok-yeowang, DJG, and Jumong-
Which all have the basic stuff as well-
but a bunch of old timey fighting and stuff. EVE

선덕여왕 is like historical romance and horror. At the same time.

Is it bad that 미실 is my favorite character? I know she's a femme fatale, but still...

(I type in hangul because I absolutely hate Korean romanization, btw. Thought you'd be wondering.)

My favorite characters were Misil and Bidam BECAUSE of their personality. EVE Craftymeancharactersftw.

until closer to the end when he stopped looking funny.

Modern dramas need more characters like Misil.

Femme fatale trickster plot evil-type power characters.

someone dies, then the person who dies son tries to find out who/what killed him. and finds out the father had another life? o-o

...not quite Korean, no.

I think one of 'em was uh, Boys Over Flowers.

Oh god that one, the Hana Yori Dango adaptation...

That one was more of a J-drama since they took the identical plot of the J-drama (but added in 2 even MOAR happy endings).
