    ...poopie.

    Well, this is just perfect.
I have to run Linux off of a CD now to use the computer I'm typing on now, because Windows refuses to boot.
And since Windows can't boot, obviously something is missing from my system files.
And my C drive is inconsistent, and since I can't open windows, I can't run chkdisk.
And since my C drive is inconsistent, I can't change the size of the windows partition so I can install and use Ubuntu/Kubuntu/debian/whatever instead of Windows.
So now I have to find an XP Professional disc, which I do have one, except it might be corrupt.
So woohoo. I'm gonna pay for this problem....
Edit: ALSO. SINCE MY COMPUTER IS A F-TARD, I HAVE TO RUN FIREFOX FROM A FLASHDRIVE. YEAH.

that sounds bad @_@ have you ever performed a check disk on your comp before? it takes a long time but it checks for any known errors or corruption in your C: drive and tries to fix them.
    http://pcworld.about.com/magazine/2111p196id112479.htm

not sure if that will help, if not.. then it comes time to choose live with the frustration and be forced to use a slow comp (due to corruption, too many files, ect. ect.) or start from scratch. i had to make that choice once because a virus (despite my precautions) somehow got stuck on my computer because of a service pack update.
which is bad because if you don't run any scans and blah blah blah any virus will be trapped on your comp after a service pack update DX

You can do a repair recovery install if you have a copy of the windows XP disc... doesn't delete files at all, just replaces the system files... ORZ
THE PROBLEM IS, LIKE I SAID, I CAN'T FIND IT
