Removal of Reputation System?

Personally I really dislike the Reputation system that the forum here has.

I think it's a way to publicly humiliate someone anonymously (I never bothered using it on this type of forum but I know for Proboards it's something along those lines).

I think we should remove it but I wanted it to be a discussion of some sort to get other people's opinions.

I agree, for basically all the reasons you said :< It doesn't seem like a very useful legitimate system. Personally, I think it's kind of pointless.

It kindof fuels the hate on here.
People don't like something you say, they thumb you down, then you're like
"OH HELL NO. YOU DON'T THUMB ME DOWN."
and then you get moar mad.
I would like to see it gone, too Dx

Frankly, I have no opinion in the matter. ._. Mainly due to the fact that I haven't seen any fights that have been caused from the reputation system. Well, except one in the chatbox. -_-;

I say remove it, as it can cause problems. For example, person A gets their friends to down person B for no real reason other than to be spiteful.

Oh and for the reasons listed above, too.

I agree, besides, what good does it do to have it there, exactly? It might feel sorta nice when somebody gets thumbed up, but other than that, the bad things about it pretty much outweigh the good.

I feel neutral on this.

Good side is that it can tell who you should trust and what not.

Bad side is it could humiliate people, and that thumbing down could be the effect of one such person being spiteful over another.

Being a person who has once reached a rep of -15, I really have no support nor nonsupport over it.

I can remove it, as with the 'notes' system. I was tinkering with the settings on the forum to see how it works, and I never bothered to remove it. I'm still experimenting with it, but it should be gone by next month.

It shows users who to look for for help, and who're the troublemakers. If you didn't pick fights and got along with other users, nobody would have any reason to lower your reputation. ouo

I agree with this. They have things on other forums like this to to show why is the most helpful and who to go to when you need help... =/ For those people who dont really talk on the forums its easier to pm people.

I'm pretty sure I'm the only person here besides Mae with a negative reputation.

I do not feel guilt. Nor do I even support nor despise the reputation system.

And I'm pretty sure I've behaved myself since the last time I caused trouble ._.

i'm actually neutral about this. i don't really see any wrong in the reputation system at all really, i mean i don't mind if my rep gets marked up or down it doesn't bother me. an opinion is a opinion, someone doesn't like what you say they mark you down (but that's no different anywhere you go where people are around ;p).

i only really use the rep system when i see a really good answer to a question or someone gave out a link, tutorial ect. ect. or if someone is causing drama in one of my topics and yelling at other people (also going way off topic in discussions).

for a long time i went without anyone giving me any rep points and staying at 0 but, it never really bothered me.

i do understand where you're coming from though and why you want to do this, but i don't think anyone really feels any guilt or shame for having low rep points.
as long as people contribute and help out or just have fun their rep points will be okay lol. but if you're just here to troll and cause trouble for other people then your rep points will suffer.

so there really is no winning or losing. it's a moot point. people will mark someone up, people will mark someone down and i'm fine with that it's a common thing. i don't ever see the rep system used on youtube unless it's a highly rated video or it was meant to cause debates XD.

I've seen some places where rep can only be given positively. I don't know if you can change that here or not ....

Personally I actually quite like a rep system. But it can be up for abuse in a forum that just can't get on!!

The points value in general is skewed. You get mega points down, but only 1 or so up.
It's funny, but look at NarutoFan Forum. That's rep done right.

I doubt anyone wants it removed for guilt but basically because they think it's not helpful. Do you have proof to back that claim up? I'm curious to know as to why you're saying that.

Sure if done right it could be a good thing but I don't see the point of using it as a way to get back at someone. That's kinda childish and immature. If you have a problem with a member, solve it in PMs or off the forum.

That's how I feel. I don't even bother using it so it's useless to me but I do personally don't like the way people are indeed using it.

i dont think i personally have ever received positive or negative reputation.. but i know people who have large amounts of one or the other, and i think.. well i think it's silly to have negative reputation as an option. it's just a flame-war-igniter, i think, because when that person posts their opinion, someone would be like 'lol they have negative ___ rep, i wont value their opinion' ^^; but i do think positive reputation is a good thing, because it'd make someone feel good about themself, and i think it rewards being kind and doing good deeds 8D

I don't really care about the reputation system, because I don't care about what people think about me.
But I think some users here have a really low reputation without deserving it.

That's what I think about the rep system.

Perhaps removing the negative option would be better.
