Thanks to haloheroine, i was able to fix the OTOs and now she sounds much better! Thanks haloheroine~

    Here is her now: http://www.box.net/shared/91gp0pxqy6

I'm really new to OTOs and don't completely understand them yet.. I'm helping a friend make her UTAU for practice, but I want to make sure her OTOs sound good! Here's a sample of what I have done so far. Please tell me if they are okay/what I should fix.

    http://www.box.net/shared/hl1o4l6yqe

Just press play to hear. I believe her "Ko" sounds a bit airy, but I'm pressing that one on the recording and not the oto. uou Even still, it's hard to get "kokoro" for me. Instead I get "k-k-ro". Any thoughts?

    ...She sounds like...
Uh... You may have done them right, sounds a bit like they're lagging but...

Well, have you fit the UST to her voice?

(also, I really, REALLY dislike her r files. Just a personal opinion, though. They're too English-y for my liking... Any chance of letting your friend know that shes doin' it wrong? xD)

I thought they seemed laggy as well. Like a little slow.. but I can't tell if that's the OTO or something else.

Also yes, her R's are extremely english. uou

    ...Okay, you didn't.

Do that, repost the result. ^^ It will be easier to tell if you're doing it correctly or not.

Well now, that was very new to me. I didn't know you could do that. Must you do that for every song you do?

Also obviously now it sounds odd and choppy. So I suppose my OTOs aren't quite there yet.. uou I get a little confused making them.

You SHOULD do that for every song, BUT KEEP IN MIND, it will mess up stringing when in Mode1.
Only use it in Mode2. ^^

    Okay, well...

"Blue bar/Front cut off zone- Cuts off silence and slurs on soft consonants (s, l, f, h, n, m etc), when beta-ing otos, best to just put it at the start of the sound.
Red line/pre-utterance- Goes at the start of the vowel/end of the consonant. That's all you really need to know. Mess with it later while on a UST with the Overlap and Preutterance cleared to see what it actually does XD
Green line/Overlap- Goes halfway in between the red line and the front cut off zone.
Pink bar/how much of the sounds is stretched- Goes over the start of the vowel for a little bit.
Back cut off zone- Cuts off the natural fade off at the end (so it flows better into other vowels).

    For vowels:
It’s pretty much the same, but you want vowels to flow better because they are generally used for extra vocalization and basic pitch bends.
So the front cut off goes over the start to where the orange line from the FRQ file starts to even out a bit (usually about 0.1 into when the sound starts)
The red line goes at about 50ms to 70ms (doesn't really matter but yeah), and the green line goes at the exact same number."

Okay, thank you~ I knew the jist of all that, but I'm glad to have it cleared up a bit more. I'll experiment and update probably tomorrow. non

Also quick question- sometimes when I fit the UST to the voicebank, when playing back, consonants get cut off where they played before formatting the UST. Is there a reason for this? It's a little frustrating. uou

The consonants getting cut off just means you need to mess with either the overlap or pre-utt; One of them is to far into the vowel. ^^

I use audacity to slice(delete) off the silence in the beginning.
    and
I use Wavepad sound editor to find the exact middle where the consonant becomes a vowel sound. which is supposedly where you put the red line. Also Its really good at "Normalizing" the files so the volume will be the same roughly throughout the entire bank. If your making UST's id suggest wavepad cause you can listen to every second then pinpoint the milliseconds where every lyric starts and ends, so you can make songs match the lyrics/music.
Also you can import VSQ(vocaloid files) and MIDI.

Thats about all I know, I hope I helped im a newb at this stuff to and the OTO file is probably the worst part if you dunno how to set it up(like me).

The longer you can hold a note the better it will sound imho. I used OREMO for the recording cause it's easy.
