    Voice Effects?...

Post by Tigurr on Thu Oct 21, 2010 3:24 pm

Firstly, sorry if I could have looked this up somewhere. ...I'm not sure what to look for. D:

Well. I'm getting slightly better at editing and making USTs (not that I've finished any |D) but I'm still not great at mixing. And I noticed the vocals in a song are often edited to have echoes and other things.

I don't know exactly how to describe what effects I'm wondering about, so I'll link to some videos to help me explain :'D

    well, firstly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lK6NpZ1PN4
the bit starting at 0:50. I don't know what you call it...screaming? kinda?

    and secondly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQYxHFO2q2Y
the way she sings at the start of the song...its like...not as clear? but it sounds cool. o_o

Okay, I'll get to my point now. TL;DR: How do I make vocals sound better outside the UTAU program? Is it with mixing programs like REAPER? Or something else?

    For mixing/cleaning:
I use GOLDWAVE. It's a paid program but Audacity can fix up a lot.
    Spoiler:
I have a key I paid for that I give to my friends for gold wave sometimes.

@The first one it sounds like a mixture of BRE/H/Y[ect] + some pre-made settings on an editor

For the second, I guess there might be some pre-made filters in some mixing programs, but I believe you can get some similar effect messing with the equalizer, too.
Once, I tried dropping all low and high frequencies, leaving only mid frequencies up, and it gave some sort of radio-like muffled effect. Having the mid frequencies go a bit up and down can probably add some disturb and produce something like this. You should experiment with it ^^

About the first, I have no idea... O.o
