    What would happen if there was some way to regulate who could make an UTAU library, and who couldn't? .A.;;

    I'm not saying that we should find a way to or anything, but I thought of this, and wondered what everybody else's opinions were. *v*

    I see it as a good thing, and a bad thing, tbh.
    If it the people who could make UTAU were controlled, I'd think there would be a lot less crappy one-shot voicebanks.
    butbutbut, if it happened, the english community would definitely lose its "UTAU for fun" mentality. D: ;;;

    So what do you all think? Is controlling UTAU production a good or bad idea? eAe

    I am torn on this.

    I believe the bigger issue in the Overseas Community is that we value the UTAU more then the voice.

    The more you impose resistance the more they'll persist. Basically putting a lid on voicebank creation will only cause it to pop out like an unstable pressure cooker.

    Plus they'll put up a rouge community if that happens, so it's no use.

    That reminds me of the MUGEN scene...

    ^ THAT.^
    *sigh*
    What I don't think we get as a community, is that in the end, the voice bank is an instrument, not a character.
    .__.

    My opinion on the question though...
    I'm torn as well.

    ^ THIS x3000

    I mean there are people who have the ability to make several voice banks and like sound different but there are some that can't.

    So I am torn.

    Hmm... I don't even see how something like that would be enforced. o.o I mean, technically, all you need to make a voicebank and post it on the internet is UTAU, a microphone, an audio editor, and Mediafire, and those are all readily available. Of course, that doesn't mean it's that easy for anyone to make a good voicebank (and sadly, a lot of them aren't). And it would be nice not to have to sort through all the not-so-good voicebanks to find the good ones.

    But isn't the fact that anyone can make their own voicebank kind of one of the things that makes UTAU more than just the offbrand version of Vocaloid? I definitely agree that it'd kinda lose its "for fun" mentality (though it wouldn't be a bad thing if we had a tiiiiny bit less of that, sometimes people are just lazy).

    But YES, I totally agree with Misha. That's kinda interesting, though, weren't we talking about how UTAUs usually have a really established personality and backstory in some other thread? o.o

    I can see the quality-control benefits of this, but in the end, bad voice banks are ignored so I don't see any point in really regulating it. Furthermore, UTAU is a hobby, and regulated hobbies just become chores in the end.

    As for the character thing, yes, the voice is the most important instrument, but a visibly appealing character does help a lot in popularizing that particular UTAU (along with good PVs and such).

    You may way that, but it's the tendency... There'll be a lot of not really good Overseas VBs, as well as there are Japanese VBs like that (I've seen 4 or 5 Japanese UTAUloids which aren't exactly good, but still get fanart because they have creative/nice designs). Controlling quality would only make the community elitist and drive away these people, whose very own UTAUloids might not be as good, but they might learn how to use UTAU over time, and progress to a good level after a while.

    The fact UTAU is a free program might attract people without money to buy professional equipment as much as richer people, so, asking for a good recording quality might be a bit elitist and biased. Voice technique/quality should be the priority, not really clearer recordings.

    The fact we notice more the low-quality VBs in the overseas fandom is that there are way more people outside Japan than in Japan itself... So, people just tend to not notice low-quality Japanese UTAUloids as much (the fact that only the most popular/best quality ones get uploaded to YT helps as well).

    Of course, I may be wrong, because I'm no specialist or anything... It's just my very personal opinion, so, chillax.

    ...I don't really care, tbh. xD

    I like making USTs and having a wide range of voices to work with, but it does get irritating having to wade through a million crappy voicebanks with pretty pictures.

    It'd be nice if there was some kind of control, because I don't like seeing three or four new rushed UTAUloids every day of the week and then missing out on the legitimately good ones, but I also wouldn't want everyone to be afraid of trying to make a voicebank. Does that make sense?

    I think that everyone should be allowed to make a voicebank ^^

    But... I don't think they should be allowed to make more than three D:

    ...I think it depends.

    I think they shouldn't make more than three with their own voice, but they should be allowed to configure more than three for their UTAUloid project...
    Although...
    ... Only if they actually whole-heartedly configure them.
    Because if you make 7 UTAUloids, all from different peoples voices, I think that's okay...

    But if they all have no otos or badly done otos, then it renders nice voices to zero likability. |:

    You should really focus on one UTAUloid at a time, and make them the best you possibly can.

    Preventing them from adding them to an UTAU Library? Great idea!

    Preventing them from publishing them? Bad idea!

    The end.

    I haven't been added to an UTAU archive of any kind, and I don't mind. I just like making UTAU for the characters, and make the characters for the specific voice type.

    UTAU library = Voice Bank if I understand correctly.

    Oh, outside of the English speaking community UTAU voicebanks are called Voice Libraries, or just library. .u.;;

    I myself don't really mind people that make multiple voicebanks, as long as its not a bunch of different characters voiced by the same person. (Unless again, the Voicer's is talented in altering their voice, or somethin g? *^*;; )

    It's just what I dislike the most are people who spend a day or two on a voicebank, post it to a list, then flat out abandon it later. @A@;
    It's really because I hate seeing places like the UTAU wiki and other sites with lists getting cluttered because of people like that. orz

    Well, QA for a website isn't a bad thing, it actually could spice up things a little if done right. But as said, preventing people to publish their voicebanks is flatly wrong.
