    "Bad File Name or Number"

Post by LupinAKAFlashTH2 on Wed Feb 17, 2010 7:20 pm

Question: Everytime I open UTAU with Kenta or another non-romaji bank, even with the correct locale settings (unless I'm not setting them up right, so explain again) I get this message, and I'm forced to close UTAU. >_>; Help?

usually this happens when the wav files and frq files' names have been corrupted.

delete whichever samples in his voicebank which have corrupted filenames.

unless its the whole voicebank that has corrupted filenames. in that case, ask an alternative vb from masterchichan.

I'd try what the above post says since I've never actually gotten that error with the correct settings but I do know people who have. Some people might get this error if the name of the folder contains spaces or character that your computer doesn't really recognize even if it's in Japanese Locale. Try removing the spaces and renaming the folders to something in English (although I'm sure Defoko's folder is "oto" so I don't know why she would give you the error)

Unless it's the new version, wherein her folder is renamed "uta".

If locale was set to English when the banks were downloaded, the files will be corrupted.
I forgot if the RAR itself is effected by the locale, but I KNOW the things you extract from it are when in English locale. If you extract files while you're in Japanese locale and the files give you problems, try redownloading while in Japanese locale, then extracting.

It happened when I opened UTAU by accident will my com was set to English locale.

Then after I switched it back to Japanese Locale, she gave me a error code.

I re-downloaded the entire UTAU program and switched the old voice bank of Defoko with the new one I had downloaded in hopes it would work.

    But she STILL gives me an error O_o;;

Maybe she just hates me D|

That still doesn't affect what I said, the fact is the folder name is still romaji and not Japanese so the folder name isn't the problem.
Anyway if the problem is caused when extracting the files with winRAR try using something else like IZArc or 7-zip (I personally prefer 7-zip and they are both completely free) Smile

I had that problem once. If you system is in English/Spanish/other language that isn't Japanese, use Applocale to open WinRAR. The unzip the files you want and it's done :D It should work correctly.
This method doesn't work with voicebanks encoded in Kana, but it works with voicebanks encoded in Hiragana.

Hiragana is kana. It's a kind of kana.

I was told that 7-zip does indeed maintain the integrity of the Japanese named files so I suggest using it to extract zip or rar files whether in Japanese or whatever your computer's locale is Smile  So if you really are having problems and don't want to start using AppLocale on winrar I suggest downloading 7-zip, it's much better and faster anyway Smile
