Out of curiosity, how does one create their own UST? And not from MIDIs, from scratch. I'd like to try my hand at it sometime, but I really don't know where to start. :\ I imagine it takes a good ear for music, which I... really don't have. orz

Re: Creating a UST
XD A good ear does help, but really it's just a lot of trial and error.
The way I do it is I find the tempo of the song, and then I'll listen to a line or two and sing it back a couple of times. (This must confuse my family. XD I listen to the song with headphones and then I'll try and find the note, so I'm just singing "Aaah" at my computer for a little while. It must look weird.) I'd suggest using a keyboard or something to match up the notes however, since it's more accurate. Then I'll try to put the notes in UTAU, and either work with the length of them as I go or once I've got all the notes right. Then I'll put in the lyrics and match it up to the original song to see how correct I was, then I'll put it to the off-vocal and see how it sounds. I always go line-by-line, though. It's much easier to fix mistakes that way.
Start simple and be patient. XD; Everyone does it differently, I think, so don't feel like any way is the "right" way to do it, either. ouo

Re: Creating a UST
i'd really love to learn how too. winchester told me it's not hard (unless you're doing it from scratch) it's just very repetitive XD

Re: Creating a UST
Well yes~ an ear for music helps *nods* if you want to do it from scratch. Since I haven't got a piano/keyboard that plugs into my computer I use FinaleNotepad 2008 to make the midi and then do it like that OTL but it takes me a long time...

Some people use MMV. Dunno how to use that though...

Re: Creating a UST
I've used MMV and I hate it. It goes off-beat a lot.
If you can distinguish between full/half/quarter/eighth/sixteenth notes, I think you're good. Also, knowing the progression of steps for major/minor keys (whole, whole, whole, half, whole, whole, whole, half for major) helps.

Ahh, so it's mainly just going by ear and trial-and-error? :v I think I get it. I don't think I'll be able to do it for a very long while, though. xD
Thank you, everyone~

Re: Creating a UST
I used to work from MMV, but once you have tempo worked out, it's MUCH easier to just work straight into a notation program or UTAU.
I work straight into UTAU now. ^^'' That way I can type in the lyrics as I go, saves time.
But yeah, everyone else pretty much said what i was going to say.
