They're...different.
I like the Japanese version better but for only one reason: Luka sounds more natural with it (let's face it her English is a failure).

My interpretation of the song? Hmm.... well, I think it's about a girl (luka) being ditched by a very good friend (Gumi), and the guy that likes the girl (Kaito) is very mean and oppressive to her ("I'm the boss here, follow my orders or I'll whip 'ya" kinda thing). The two pets (Len and Rin) the girl owns are tricked by the boy to help with kidnapping the girl by pouncing on her and knocking her out-cold. The girl, at this point, dreams of her good friends voice, and she runs away.... from everything.

Mine was more literal - Luka supplies the singing voice Gumi and one day Gumi doesn't show; Luka can't come out for fear of showing her hideous appearance to the world even though the audience wants a singer; Kaito is like the manager and is cruel, wanting to expose Luka and make her show herself (but he's not the person she wants to sing for), and Luka comes out and sings, but soon notices the lions are gone too only to find her a victim at the audience's entertainment.
