God, I've been having this feeling that many people join and work on UTAUs just for the fame, and I knew that would lead to some type of downfall... but it's still quite shocking to read it as the truth is poured out into the open like that. Dx
I'm gonna be one to admit, though, that I'd like my share of fame just as much as anyone else, but I'm working at it. :3
But at the same time, I'm also doing this out of fun and interest. >w<

I also agree that the fandom may very well just revive with the coming of the new technology, since the appeal might have a large area of effect and could reach out to possible newcomers.

I think part of it is that it seems like the farther you get into this fandom the more you realize exactly how much drama there is.

The day I take sides is the day I quit.

When did it start dying, really? I joined in about June…I’m hoping that I hadn’t just gotten into it and it turns out to have started dying…

Popularity is fun to screw around with, but there’s also something fun about being obscure. Just as long as your UTAU doesn’t have a horribly-drawn-out character with Type 4 Generic Personality and an appearance to match, and as long as it doesn’t sound like everyone else’s, I’m fine.

It’s also not people vying for popularity I dislike – it’s people who spam their UTAU everywhere. I understand people who spam them in the first two or three months of making it (initial promotion is important!), but after that…it gets kinda old.

Aster, that was just me being a bit negative (or a bit realist, depends on how much optimism you have). The fandom might take a long while to die, if we count with m4 engine, Mac UTAU and everything...

It doesn't help that /some users/ are all into bashing others carelessly the whole time, without even trying to have ideas to help others. While I and some other Skype/Twitter users were thinking in a group to help people with character design/development problems (we aren't sure how helpful and organized it'd be), these people are all up to comment on the creators' DAs bad things and stuff. Every time I see it happening, I usually stand up, no matter how terrible/copied I think the design might be; we shouldn't drive people away from the fandom for such a minor offense.

Do a small hiatus. Even if it's a 2-week hiatus away from UTAU, it's already a relief from the repetition.
