UST help please..? Empty UST help please..?

    Post by *Mattaki_Seimutsune Sun Oct 10, 2010 10:30 pm

Umm.hi im a total NOOB at UTAU even if I do have my own Utauloid.

My question is...how do you make a UST on time of a song/how to time it to sing at the time its supposed to.

I mean, I know if you click ''new'' you make a random new UST. But I don't know how to time it..

You need to know music theory, like eighth-notes/half-notes/quarter-notes/full-notes (not in that order) etc.
Beat and pitch knowledge are also necessary.

So it helps if you've studied an instrument before.

I think he's asking more about how to make a ust from scratch.

The easiest way is to find a midi and import it and then write in the lyrics. If you want to do a .ust "by scratch" then you just pretty much have to guess the pitch and note lengths. If you can read music you can make a ust off of sheet music too.

...I know. He's talking about a ust from scratch.

midis work, but are unpredictable (they don't always line up in time). Pitch and note-lengths are not "guessing", and reading music requires knowledge of music theory.

So it goes back to what I said: music theory.

Well, you don't need to know music theory, just maybe how to read music. Music theory is more chord progressions and other things music composers need to know. He's not wanting to compose music, just to write a ust for a song. There's no easy way to do that, but knowing how to read music will help, but you don't necessarily need to know how.

But by no means can you just pick a song and start writing a ust from scratch. It will take forever, especially if you're a newb.

    *sigh*

Well, I was talking more to the OP than to you. I'm sure experienced users can make usts from scratch without much problem.

Well, it's not really experience...it's knowing basic music theory. Like I said.

It helps to tap your finger to the beat while you listen to the song and what parts it takes two notes to fill a beat and what parts it takes one and what parts two beats take up one note.

^This. Tap tempo helps a lot.

Also, I completely agree with Aster - it all comes down to music throery in the end. (Luckily, I have learned to play multiple instruments before, and music theory was obviously included. Especially when it comes to the piano.)

Uh huh....thank you, but unfortunatly I don't actually play an instrument, nor know what half-notes and things mean, i'm like..very um, how you could say...not experienced with music.

Hm...Just go with tap tempo then.

You're going to have to learn (or at least know) note-relativity though, since just randomly guessing at notes usually doesn't do much.
