Couple things
1) Different location - took Halo's advice and found a nice corner to record in.
2) Used my old laptop to record- The new one, as I mentioned, is a tad bitchy. It didn't cooperate with the old mic, so I figured it might be distorting the recordings on the new one somewhat.
3) Audacity.
