Hiragana or Romanji? Empty Hiragana or Romanji?

Post by xLei Wed Mar 17, 2010 10:46 am

I plan on re-recording Vista due to some mispronounced syllables so I was wondering:

Should I do the voice bank in Hiragana or Romanji?

I plan on adding in English and Spanish samples as well as making aliases so I was wondering which format I should save the original files in.

I would suggest doing romaji with hiragana aliases. That way users that have computers that don't support hiragana, are able to use the voicebank as well.

Just so you know, it's spelled romaji.

Yeah, what the above poster [sorry, not sure what to shorten your name to] said.

Anyway, either have romaji with hiragana alias or a separate voicebank for both romaji and "other" Japanese [as is the case of Donka Fjord]

I'm Mae. You can call me BLYTHEさん if you want, but most people call me Mae.

Making a separate voicebank for romaji and hiragana is horribly redundant. What I prefer is just plain hiragana. However, people can run into problems with that.
The second best thing to do is to save as romaji and add hiragana with the OTO.

On the flip side, if you want to add English/Spanish/Whatever compatibility samples, those basically have to be in roman characters, aside from things like ドゥ,ヴ, and things like that.

However, those can be romaji despite the rest of the bank being hiragana.

Ah I see. Sorry about that but everywhere I see it's spelled either Romanji or Romaji.

When in doubt, Google will help you, trust me. It helps even with word spelling, surprisingly.

Anyway, back on topic, perhaps romaji [hiragana alias in the oto.ini] would help, such as with Camila Melodia, the first UTAU I downloaded with both r+h capabilities.

r being romaji and h being hiragana
